Religion has been brought up many dozens of times in the past few years of political elections. Why?
Recently there has been video and talk of the Presidential candidate Mitt Romney (see link at bottom of page) questioning him about his religion. There are many that are criticizing him for not answering the first version of the question directed pointedly at his faith. Why is that a negative thing? Last time I checked there was not a single or even multiple religions that are supported or required in any way to be President of the United States. In fact a friend recently shared this information with me:
"Asking questions about any candidate's faith is a violation of the "religious test" clause: Article VI, paragraph 3 of the Constitution states that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
Besides the questions main point was that of trying to catch Romney off guard and claim that he is racist. I believe that he handled the situation very well. When he told the questioner "I'm sorry, we're just not gonna have a discussion about religion" and then asked the questioner if he had any other question. He tried to rephrase the question by asking "Do you believe it's a sin for a white man to marry and procreate with a black woman?" As is expected Romney immediately says "No" very firmly and moves on to the next question. I believe that Romney handled this very well, and I wish that more politicians would act with this much class and directness.
By the way, this article is not to promote Romney or claim that I will vote for him. I simply believe that this was tactfully handled with class by him.
To continue: Why on earth are there so many trying to claim racism in politics today?!? Anywhere and everywhere you look someone is trying to call someone else a racist. If you look at Herman Cain, he is black and people say he is racist whenever he says something against Obama! A Mexican is called racist when he kills a black 17 year-old during neighborhood watch and in self defense! A white man is called racist because of his religion which includes nearly every race on the planet and allows ALL races to hold office in that religion as well! What is everyone's obsession with racism?!?
When I take college exams, I write "Other" and put in whatever I feel like. Why may you ask? Well, why does it matter what race I am? I thought this country was about accepting people. About having equal rights between ALL people.
The United States of America is known as "the land of the free". Nowhere does it say the land of the free black guy, and everyone else. Or the land of the free asian and everyone else. This is the land of the FREE. All of us together. I have friends of many races and I am happy to make more friends of any other race, and I would hope they would be a friend in return to me. Isn't that what America is about? The United States is a melting pot of race, religion, ethnicity, talents, skills, labors, duties, families, abilities, and everything else. We are a people. Not groups of separate people but one people. If someone doesn't believe that then they are welcome to leave our beloved land. We are "one nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice FOR ALL".
The beautiful United States has slowly been falling prey and captivated by many who have loud voices claiming that there are problems with race and religion. Well now those who want TRUE EQUALITY (not one race favored over another because they are a minority or majority), it is time for us to stand up and let our voices be heard. To show that we in our communities accept everyone around us. That I go participate in a soccer, basketball, or football league with white men/women, black men/women, asian men/women and any other race which you would like to place in this sentence. That I can sing in a choir or volunteer for a blood drive with anyone of any race, just like most of you do! The majority of America wants true equality, but the rifts of those "supporting" equality drive us apart. Stand together and let them know that a Catholic and a Mormon can be friends. A white woman and a black man can be friends. A mexican man and an asian woman can be friends. And that we can all abide together.
Get the crap of the media and political agendas to create hype and votes because of race out of the mix. They do this because they can sell papers and make programs. Get it all out.
I am a True Equality activist. And I am proud of it.
